So you have an idea or several. You know your endgame or what you want your life to look like once you have your flourishing business, yet you are unsure of the steps to take to get there.
Where do I begin?
This is a very common question I get asked.
You are excited, ready and driven, but you have absolutely no clue what steps to take or where and how to invest whatever money you have saved to start your business.
I have put together a little guide for all entrepreneurs and startups no matter what industry you are in, this will assist and apply to you.
1 – Start where you are, with whatever resources you have available to you.
Set a strong personal foundation, invest in your own education, skills and mindset development.
It is vital to have all areas of your life in as good shape as possible and hopefully improving. If any of your areas are out of balance it will impact on your ability to focus on your business and have a successful and happy outlook.
What resources can you start with?
2 – Choose your 'client' and base your business on your clients needs.
Is your business/ service relevant and needed? Will you be able to meet your customers needs and eliminate their pain points?
Too many businesses start without ever considering what their clients may actually need, leading to a very uphill battle.
Yes you may have a great idea however without considering your client first your branding, strategy and business model will be very unclear and without direction.
3 – Get skilled in the art of selling
When you run a business from the heart, such as a creative business, wellness business or provide services. One of the hardest obstacles to overcome is actually selling your product or service.
There are many avenues to assist with this so you aren't relying heavily on family & friends.
Some options to help could be;
- Set up a website (WIX allows you to do it for free) or hire someone to create one. You can use services like Fiverr to get someone skilled for a reasonable price.
- Look into Facebook and Instagram, there are many free videos online. Hire a Virtual Assistant if you can who specialises in this to really establish a professional approach.
- Practice using sponsored or paid advertisement to target your ideal client.
- Practice your elevator pitch with friends
- Watch youtube videos and get as much free information as you can.
4 –Get expert help
I really believe in hiring or finding a mentor, learning from those who have already made it in the industry or area you are moving into. It is invaluable to take on their lessons.
Read every book or article you can find, they really offer incredible support and wisdom.
